The circuit board process edge is also called the working edge, which is a long strip blank board edge set to reserve the track transmission position and place the panel Mark point during SMT processing. The width of the process edge is generally about 5-8mm.

In the production process of circuit board, the reservation of process side is of great significance for the subsequent SMT patch processing. The process side is the part added on both sides or four sides of the circuit board to assist SMT patch, DIP plug-in and welding walking board, mainly to assist PCBA production and processing. It is not a part of the circuit board of the circuit board, and the circuit board factory can be removed after the completion of PCBA manufacturing and production.

As the process side will consume more PCB plates and increase the overall cost of the circuit board, the economy and manufacturability need to be balanced when designing the circuit board process side.

For some special shapes of the circuit boards, the circuit boards with two process sides or four process sides can be skillfully simplified by pooling them.

In the design of the SMT patch processing mode, the track width of the SMT patch machine should be fully taken into account. For the panels with a width of over 350mm, we must communicate with the process engineer of the SMT patch machine supplier.

The main purpose of the reserved process is because the SMT patch machine track is used to clamp the PCB board and flow through the patch machine, so too close to the track side of electronic components in the SMT patch machine suction suction and paste to the circuit board, prone to collision phenomenon, unable to complete the production process, so must reserve a certain process, its width in about 5mm.

Similarly, the reserved process edge is also applicable to some plug-in components to prevent similar phenomenon during peak welding.

The flatness of the circuit board process side is also an important control part in the PCB production of the circuit board factory. When the circuit board factory removes the production process edge of the circuit board, it needs to ensure the process edge leveling, especially for the PCB board with high assembly accuracy requirements, any uneven wool edge will lead to the deviation of the installation hole position, which brings great trouble to the subsequent PCBA assembly and processing.
